- Be prepared to be annoyed again because I am annoyed and I feel like
- bitching about USR.
-
- I called their 1-800-550-7800 number and asked for the new flash code.
- The woman I talked to was very polite but told me that only a tech can
- give me the code. She said that there was a long wait for me to speak to
- one and so she took my name and number and assured me that someone would
- call me within 2 hours. That was yesterday afternoon. I called them back
- 20 hours later and got a busy signal. I called them back 2 hours later
- and got a busy signal. I again called back 2 hours later and finally got
- a customer rep. I gave my reference number and they said they would
- transfer me to a tech. I sat on hold for 20 minutes listening to an
- orchestra play almost the entire score to the musical South Pacific.
- Finally I got a tech. Who promptly said that he could NOT send the file
- to an email address as you said that they could but I had a choice of
- them calling me and delivering the code to me or getting a disk. I
- immediately envisioned a bad transfer and having to go through calling
- them again and all the waiting and I said, "Send me a disk". Who knows
- when that will ever get here.
-
- This is just a plain stupid way to make available a new flash code. If
- I wanted a hassle in getting an upgrade I would have bought a Sportster
- instead of a Courier. Having a Flash Rom was supposed to make upgrading
- easy.
-
- USR, stop the silliness, put the code up on your BBS and at your FTP
- site. Face it, there are no such things as "export controls" for
- software. Once even one person gets their hands on a file, there's a
- good chance that it will be all over the world within a few hours.
